Predict car setup changes
Make a change see the effect (without testing)
You don’t know what happens when you change the rear wing.
You don’t know what happens if you change all 4 springs
You don’t know what happens if I add preload, increase brake bias, and lower the bump value on the rear axle.
What if you could see it before you test it,
Normal car setup building goes like this:
5 laps. okay lap time was created
what do i change?
It was kind of understeery. I increased the ride height.
effect? Yeah, got less understeer but too much oversteer on corners 2 and 7.
So you drop it again, and now you change something else?
Did it work? meh not sure. Got slower lap times at least.
What if you could make that rideheight change, and see what side effects this change is going to do BEFORE you go out on track..
You increase rear ride height, but you make the entry rotation more, the entry stability less?
Look at this, my current wing, front, and rear ride height is going to show me these outputs of the car.
What if I increase the rear wing
I gain stability, and I add drag to the car.
It's also very stable now
What happens if I add rear ride height then?
So here I can predict when I change the wing and the rear ride height of the car.
On the top, you can also see the skill level required to drive this car now when to 4.3 in aggression
A big problem, however, is that when I switch cars, these values are very different. When you make this change to a Ferrari 296, you add 10mm of rake, and you'll die a million deaths, no stability, 100 rotation, the car feels dangerous oversteer.
And when you do this with a Lexus, you dont have any instability when lowering the wing a lot of times.
The best part is, I can create these prediction screens for every car in every sim. I do the test, and this screen is a part of my brain. You have answers to before you actually do the change.
My Car setup BRAIN on a piece of slides
Now it's wildly uncalibrated at the moment. But I wanted to show everyone what I’m working on.
If you think this is useful, or if you have experience with building apps. Shoot, that could speed up progress on this tool.
Tomorrow, Barca and other layouts on lmu, I'll be busy updating your setups. Keep an eye out for the car setups update log; it might take a few days.
